Suffolk Schools Regatta
ANNUAL SCHOOLS REGATTA
Wednesday 29th June 2011 |
|
This year we celebrate the golden jubilee
of SWSA and so we want to make the regatta the biggest and best
in our history. Our aim is to beat last year’s record 170
participants by encouraging both experienced competitors and those
who have just learned to sail to sign up.
The event will take place at Alton Water Sports Centre, Holbrook
Road, Stutton, Suffolk, IP9 2RY. Schools affiliated to SWSA are
invited to send crews. Individuals from non-affiliated schools
may also enter on payment of the appropriate session rate.
We are pleased to announce that we are once again running two
regattas simultaneously:
- The main regatta will consist of 3 fleets, fast handicap,
slow handicap and a Topper fleet. These fleets will compete for
traditional honours. Entries are encouraged from regular racers
and those whose experience is limited. There will be trophies
for the first in each fleet, a team trophy and a trophy for the
highest placed competitor in a hired boat. Additionally there
is a Chairman’s award
for conspicuous sportsmanship/bravery.
- The Onboard regatta is intended for beginner sailors and
those with no race experience. There will be coaching provided
on the day to help all participants enjoy and learn.
All boats must have adequate buoyancy and third party insurance
to the value of £2,000,000. All teams must have a team manager
who is responsible for ensuring that the above conditions are met
and for the welfare of their team members on land.
Hiring Boats
SWSA will make available a number of dinghies for hire on the day
at a cost of £10 each. The boats will include Toppers,
Topazs, Bugs and Oppies. Full details are available through the
SWSA website by clicking the Regatta button.
We hope that the wide range of opportunities, the low cost and
the availability of hired craft will encourage you to enter a team
and make this the biggest, best and most inclusive Suffolk Schools
Regatta ever.
We have reduced entry fees for this event to £5 per entrant
and a fee of £10 per boat if you wish to hire.
Deadline for entries
is midnight Monday 27th June.
